Hi, I’m Alex

I’m a Staffordshire based celebrant and writer, living on the edge of the beautiful Peak District with my husband and two young sons.

I love to read, run, watch films and sunsets, bake, potter around in the garden, attempt handstands, swim in the sea, litter pick, go to the theatre, find ways to make the dull parts of life easier and the rest better, have minor existential panics about the climate crisis, and play with my kids.

I’m not as fond of picking up Lego, but it seems to come with the children, so I’ll take it.

I am the sort of person who starts crazy projects with no real idea of how I’m going to finish them. For a long time I thought I didn’t finish them, but it turns out I’m just super slow, and I have a lot of plans, so I need to take care of myself well into old age. So much stuff to do!

I am also a writer. I choose words and arrange words and occasionally taste them just to double check if they’re good.

I studied Drama at university, and I’ve written and produced script readings for the theatre for many years. I’m also a qualified journalist with a decade of experience writing for local newspapers, covering everything from 70th wedding anniversaries and 100th birthdays, to murder enquiries, and the aftermath of the largest firefighting disaster in UK history.

I love people, and I love stories.

With my writing hat on, I’ve just completed a novel for young adults which I’m in the process of sending out to literary agents, and I facilitate writing workshops, mostly for young people. I have been doing this since I was a young person myself.

I’m experienced in listening, in finding the right words, and in performing them, so I very much hope I’m qualified to tell your loved one’s story.
